About Sudoku

Sudoku is a logic puzzle on a 9 × 9 grid divided into nine 3 × 3 boxes. Some squares start filled; your job is to fill the rest so that every row, every column and every box holds each digit from 1 to 9 exactly once. Every puzzle here is generated fresh, has exactly one solution and can be solved by reasoning alone, never by guessing. Choose Easy, Medium, Hard or Expert: each level is graded by the solving techniques it needs, not just by how many squares start filled. Pencil in notes, undo freely, and ask for a hint or a check when you are stuck.

How to play Sudoku

  1. Fill every empty square with a digit from 1 to 9.
  2. Each row, each column and each 3 × 3 box must contain every digit exactly once.
  3. The starting digits, the givens, can’t be changed. You can change or erase any digit you wrote.
  4. Pencil small notes into a square to keep track of the digits it could still hold.
  5. A hint fills one square, and a check marks any digit you wrote that is wrong. Both are optional and are noted in your result.
  6. You win when the grid is full and matches the puzzle’s one solution. Your time is your score.
