About Minesweeper

Minesweeper is a logic puzzle on a grid of covered squares, some of which hide mines. Uncover a safe square and it shows how many of its eight neighbors hold a mine; use those numbers to work out where the mines are, flag them, and uncover everything else. Your first uncover is always safe and always opens an area. Play Beginner, Intermediate or Expert, or set up a custom board, and race your best time.

How to play Minesweeper

  1. Uncover a square. If it hides a mine, the game is lost. Otherwise it shows how many of its eight neighbors, diagonals included, are mines.
  2. A square with no neighboring mines opens its neighbors automatically, spreading until numbers border the open area.
  3. Flag a covered square you believe holds a mine. A flagged square can’t be uncovered by accident.
  4. On an uncovered number with exactly that many flags around it, chord to uncover all its other neighbors at once. A wrong flag means a mine.
  5. Your first uncover is always safe. You win when every square without a mine is uncovered; you don’t have to flag the mines.
