About Pig

Pig is the simplest push-your-luck dice game, and a favorite for teaching probability. On your turn you roll one die as often as you dare, adding up the numbers, but a 1 wipes out everything you gained that turn. Stop in time and the points are yours for good. Play two to six players, against computer opponents at three levels or passing one device around the kitchen table. First to bank 100 points wins, or 50 in a short game.

How to play Pig

  1. A random player goes first; then play passes around the table in seat order.
  2. On your turn, roll the die. A 2 to 6 adds to your turn points, and you choose: roll again, or hold.
  3. Roll a 1 and you lose all your turn points, and your turn ends.
  4. Hold to add your turn points to your banked score. Your turn ends, and the points are safe for good.
  5. The first player to bank 100 points (50 in a short game) wins at once. Turn points only count once you hold.
