About Greed

Greed is a dice game of nerve for two to eight players, also known as Farkle. Throw six dice, set aside the ones that score, and decide: bank your points, or throw the rest for more. A throw with nothing that scores is a bust, and every point from that turn is lost. Score with all six dice and you throw all six again. The dice are thrown by a physics simulation on a lamp-lit felt table, and the first player to bank 10,000 points starts the final round.

How to play Greed

  1. Each player throws one die to start; the highest die goes first, and tied leaders throw again.
  2. On your turn, throw all six dice, then set aside at least one scoring die or combination.
  3. Scoring: a single 1 is 100 and a single 5 is 50. Three of a kind is the face × 100, except three 1s, which are 1,000. Four, five or six of a kind score 1,000, 2,000 or 3,000. A straight or three pairs score 1,500, and two triplets 2,500.
  4. Bank your turn points, or throw the dice you didn’t set aside to add more. You need 500 in one turn to get on the board.
  5. A throw with nothing that scores is a bust: the turn ends and its points are lost.
  6. Score with all six dice and you have hot dice: throw all six again.
  7. Once someone banks 10,000 points, everyone else gets one last turn, and the highest score wins. A tie at the top plays sudden-death rounds.
