About Blackjack

Blackjack, also called twenty-one, is the card game of getting close to 21 without going over. You play against a dealer who follows fixed rules, with chips that are points for this game only: every game starts at 1,000 chips and lasts 25 hands. Hit, stand, double and split from a six-deck shoe, and switch on the Coach to learn the best play for every hand.

How to play Blackjack

  1. Number cards count their number, jacks, queens and kings count 10, and an ace counts 11 unless that would take the hand over 21, when it counts 1.
  2. Choose a bet of 10, 20, 50 or 100 chips, then the dealer deals two cards to you and two to the dealer, one of them face down.
  3. An ace and a ten-value card as your first two cards is a blackjack, which pays 3 to 2. If the dealer shows an ace or a ten-value card, the dealer checks for blackjack first.
  4. Hit to take a card, or stand to keep your total. On your first two cards you may double: bet as much again and take exactly one more card.
  5. Split two cards of the same value into two hands, each with its own bet, up to four hands. Split aces get one card each.
  6. Go over 21 and you bust and lose the bet. The dealer then draws until reaching 17 or more and stands on every 17.
  7. Beat the dealer’s total, or stay in when the dealer busts, and you win as much as you bet; an equal total is a push and your bet comes back.
  8. The game ends after 25 hands or when you have fewer than 10 chips. Finish with more than 1,000 chips to win.
